The Lord has assured Abraham that “through Isaac shall your offspring be named,” yet Isaac is pushing forty and still a bachelor. What of the great nation to come? What of people like the sand of the shores and the stars of the heavens? In Genesis 24 Abraham sends his servant to secure a wife for Isaac. Will God prosper his endeavor? Will she be willing to come? What will happen to the promise? Thanks be to God, who assuages our own doubts and fears by showing us his consistent faithfulness to our fathers and mothers in the faith.
