Presbyterian Leadership
The word Presbyterian simply means “ruled by elders”. The leadership of the church consists of elders and deacons. The elders are divided into two classes: Teaching Elders (Pastors) and Ruling Elders (lay ministers). The elders, elected by members of the congregation, take responsibility for the spiritual oversight of the church. The Deacons, also elected men, serve the physical needs of the church members as well as the oversee the maintenance of the church building. We are grateful for each.
Our Teaching Elder, Rev. Tony Pyles
Tony Pyles graduated from Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, MS with his MDiv in 2010 and went on to doctoral studies in Old Testament at McMaster Divinity College. Shortly after completing his coursework, he accepted an opportunity to teach at Queensland Theological College in Brisbane, Australia. One day he hopes to finish the dissertation that time abroad disrupted; just not any time soon!
In the meantime, he loves preaching, shepherding, leading at Faith Presbyterian Church of Clinton, LA. as well as continuing to teach through Covenant Seminary as an Adjunct Professor of Old Testament. Tony also enjoys hiking, hunting, reading, building things with his hands, and spending time with his family. He is happily married to Rose and the Lord has blessed them with six children. Numbers is his third favorite book of the Bible, velociraptors are his second favorite dinosaur, and he drinks coffee like water year-round.
